Health and Safety Services and Courses

CPR is one of the most important life-saving skills The Red Cross teaches. Last year we instructed more than 14,000 individuals in CPR. The more community and family members who know CPR, the safer our neighborhoods and homes.

The primary purpose of CPR is to get oxygen to the brain. Without this oxygen, humans sustain irreparable brain damage within eight minutes. Many doctors say it can occur much sooner than that. It is certain that if a loved one or close friend quit breathing or suffered a heart attack, you would want to know CPR.

First aid is also an important aspect of Red Cross's community service. Last year we trained over 7,000 individuals in first aid. By knowing first aid techniques you can help when someone has heat prostration, shock, severe bleeding, or has a stroke.

In addition, the Red Cross offers a variety of other important trainig courses. We teach water safety, teen babysitting, pet CPR, and CPR for the professional rescuer, just to name a few. If you're interested in classes, check our 2004 course schedule in the menu to the right. If you're interested in becoming an instructor, visit our pages on volunteer services and opportunities.

The volunteer and paid staff at Three Rivers realize that to provide quality service, they must offer professional training. All of our instructors are well-trained, certified, and knowledgeable. They can teach almost anyone the techniques for reacting to an emergency. Many people feel intimidated by learning these skills. Not to worry. Attend one of our classes, learn the skills, learn to CHECK, CALL, CARE, and you'll be able to take the proper action in any situation.

For questions concerning health and safety issues or life-saving courses, email our Health and Safety Director or call us at (530) 673-1460.
