Support Three Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross
Donate Now!
Did you know that just about all of what our local chapter does for the local community comes from people like you, people who donate to the chapter? Three Rivers Chapter is not funded by the National Red Cross or by the government. The National Red Cross will assist with expenses when there is a national disaster declared in our area, however, such disasters are very rare.
Here are some of the things that your donations cover:
- Emergency Shelter (Up to Three days) for victims.
- Food for three days for families
- Basic clothing for victims
- Necessary prescriptions and/or eye glasses lost in the disaster
- Consultation with certified nurses for assistance with other medical needs
- Counseling for those in need as the result of a personal disaster
- Uniforms and tools, if necessary for work lost in a fire or flood
- Comfort kits for each victim (Toothbrush and hygiene products)
- A stuffed toy for small children to help with the trama of the event
These items, costing several hundreds of dollars for each event, are distributed to the victims without charge or the necessity of repayment. It's our way of making life when it reaches a low ebb a little more palatable. It's an act of kindness, compassion and the human thing to do. That is what we are all about.
Training of local volunteers
All books and supplies are provided free for a myriad of classes that need be taken in order to carry on the Red Cross volunteer response to local and national disasters. Instructors are provided at no cost and, in fact, are volunteers themselves. Air conditioned and heated classrooms are provideded for volunteers. These services involve the expenditure of funds for building maintenance, heating, air conditioning, electricity, audio-visual equipment and this all comes from donated money.
Staff and Volunteers
Staff are paid from money derived from donations, fundraisers, building rental and profession trainingg costs for training and certification of nurses, CPR training for industry, businesses and other organizations required to have employees so trained. The money generated does not come close to the orgaization and community needs even though there are just a few necessary members of staff. By in large, the bulk of the Three Rivers Red Cross is made up of volunteers.
Our volunteers are on call for a week at a time, 24 hours a day, go out on all residential fire calls upon notification by a local fire department, cover seven counties involving hundreds of miles of travel, use their own cars, buy their own gas and do not get paid for their services. They are to be admired and the community should be proud of all that they do from the heart! We are!
So, you see . . . your donated dollars are well spent! Your donation, for the most part, goes to help those people who need it most at a time when they need it most! Anyone of us could be one of those victims in the near future.
Yes . . . we are asking for your donation. It will go a long way to helping someone in need. Please give as much as you can manage. If you are donate by check, please make the check payable to:
